Mooninites Cause Bomb Scare.

BOSTON, Massachusetts (CNN) — Electronic light boards featuring an adult-cartoon character triggered bomb scares around Boston on Wednesday, spurring authorities to close two bridges and a stretch of the Charles River before determining the devices were harmless.

Turner Broadcasting Co., the parent company of CNN, said the devices contained harmless magnetic lights aimed at promoting the Adult Swim network’s late-night cartoon “Aqua Teen Hunger Force.” Law enforcement sources said the devices displayed one of the Mooninites, outer-space delinquents who appear frequently on the show, greeting visitors with a raised middle finger.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) — Paris Hilton filed a federal lawsuit Monday, seeking to shut down a Web site that displays personal photos, videos, diaries, and other belongings once kept at a storage facility.

The Web site was launched last week claiming the items were auctioned off after Hilton neglected to pay the Los Angeles-area storage facility. It also promises visitors who pay a fee of $39.97 access to Hilton’s passport, medical records and other legal documents.

In her lawsuit, Hilton said she put her possessions in storage two years ago when she and her sister, Nicky, moved out of a house that had been burglarized.

The 25-year-old heiress said a moving company was supposed to pay the storage fees and was “shocked and surprised” to learn her belongings were sold at a public auction.

“I was appalled to learn that people are exploiting my and my sisters’ private personal belongings for commercial gain,” Hilton said in a declaration supporting the lawsuit, adding she was concerned the information could be used for identity theft or harassment.

The lawsuit alleges defendants Nabil and Nabila Haniss paid $2,775 for the contents of the storage unit and later sold the items for $10 million to entrepreneur Bardia Persa, who created the site ParisExposed.com.

Vista Runs Great….on a Mac

Posted on 29 January 2007 by Mat

…Funnily enough, Macs are great machines for running Vista. They’re new, they’re fast and they exceed Vista’s demanding specs. They can even run OS X and Windows at the same time.

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been running Vista on a quad-Xeon Mac Pro. Click the link to see how it’s working out.

The Mac Pro is a very fast and capable OS X machine, but it’s an even faster Windows Vista machine.

Vista really flies on this beast, and feels like it’s faster than OS X – it boots faster, folders burst open and apps launch instantly.

(The Mac Pro has two dual-core 2.66GHz Xeon chips; 3GBs of RAM; and a medium-range NVidia GeForce 7300 GT graphics card)

I’m especially delighted with Vista’s “glass” Aero interface, which works in all its glory on this machine.

Doctor Who…More Like Doctor WHY?

Britney Spears will be offered the chance to play a group of sex-mad aliens on British Sci-Fi TV show Doctor Who.

Show writer Russell T. Davies is a massive fan of the pop princess and wants to take the series to Hollywood so Spears can make a spectacular cameo playing a cloned extra-terrestrial.

Davies says, “I’d love Britney to do it - it would be so much fun. “I’m not sure she’ll come to Cardiff where the show is shot so I’m nagging the BBC to fund a Hollywood special.”

In twist of reality based on fantasy, Rep. George Miller is bringing the Capitol into the virtual, fantasy world of Second Life, where players represented by their personal “avatars” do everything from buying a virtual set of dishes to going on virtual Tahiti vacations. With the help of Berkely-based Clear Ink, Miller debuted the virtual political forum at the swearing-in ceremony in Washington, D.C., in January. Now, he’s ready to bring in other members of Congress and engage in debate about immigration, health care and the Iraq War.

So the story goes that Paris Hilton had a storage unit full of dirty sex tapes, diaries, and other personal shit. Somehow in her absolute genius she managed to forget or somehow failed, to pay the $208 to keep it all from getting auctioned off. Well, someone bought it all and put it online for everyone to see. You can check it all out at parisexposed.com or just here look for a selected few of the videos that have already surfaced on the interwebs.

“Magnum P.I.” Movie in the Works

Posted on 18 January 2007 by Mat

180px-Magnumtomselleck.jpg

Blonde-haired Matthew McConaughey with a moustache, fit out with shorts and a Hawaiian tee, driving a Ferrari down a palm tree-lined avenue. Is that a close enough approximation of Magnum P.I. for you?

It might have to do. It’s been a while since we heard what was happening with the feature film remake of Magnum P.I., but according to the UK’s Teletext, writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball) has finished his latest draft for the film and named McConaughey as his choice to play the suave Hawaiian detective. The same report pegs Steve Zahn (Sahara) as Rick, Tyrese Gibson (2 Fast 2 Furious) as TC the chopper pilot, and William H. Macy as Higgins (ER), British war veteran and caretaker of the estate where Magnum lodges.

Wake Me Up in Four Minutes, So I Can See The Fireworks.

CCClock.jpg

Climate change and nuclear proliferation have moved the world closer to apocalypse, Professor Stephen Hawking and his colleagues have warned.

At the same time, the hand of a Doomsday Clock has moved two minutes closer to midnight.

The clock, devised at the dawn of the nuclear age, has made official what many now feel in their bones — that mankind is heading for catastrophe.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which created the Doomsday Clock in 1947 to warn the world of the dangers of nuclear weapons, advanced the clock to five minutes to midnight.
