For all my republican friends (both of you)

Posted on 30 September 2004 by Mat

As the election grows near, I see more and more Bush/Cheney signs popping up. I don’t get it. I just simply cannot wrap my brain around WHY there are so many.

Who are these people who support George Bush?

First I thought, “hmm..maybe its because they don’t watch the news, or read the papers or have any friends.” But that can’t be it. All these people must have a TV and a few friends.

So then I thought “ok, maybe its like how some people are big Darth Vader or Boba Fett fans..you know, they cheer on the bad guy because they think its cool.” But no, thats not it either, because Vader and Fett both had cool outfits, plus they weren’t total morons. No one supports DUMB bad guys.

Ok, let me think about it some more..”Maybe these people are told by old stodgey relatives and/or church groups that voting for Bush is the ‘right thing to do’. ” That could be it. I figure most religious organizations are pretty extreme, and many people who follow these groups, do what they’re told. So if the church says “Gays are bad, and Bush doesn’t like gays, so you should keep that guy.”, the churchies go home and vote Bush.

Maybe.

That still doesn’t satisfy my curiousity though. Could the Christers have such a hold on these people’s minds that they can’t even see the facts?

How does someone support a president who has:

- Emptied the Social Security trust fund by $507 billion to help offset fiscal irresponsibility and at the same time slash Social Security benefits.
- Cut Medicare by 17 percent and reduce veterans’ benefits and military pay.
- Eliminated overtime pay for millions of Americans and raise oil prices by 50 percent.
- Give tax cuts to businesses that sent American jobs overseas, and, in fact, by policy encouraged their departure.
- Given away billions of tax dollars in government contracts without competitive bids.
- Involved this country in a deadly and highly questionable war, and
- Taken a budget surplus and turned it into the worst deficit in the history of the United States, creating a debt in just four years that will take generations to repay.

(The above points came from the Lone Star Iconoclast, the paper of Bush’s hometown - Crawford, TX. Even THEY support Kerry)
My Bush supporting friends (both of you), can you explain why the above listed things are something I should support? Tell me why you support them.

Do these Bush supporters think this is all made up by the Left? That these are all lies from the “Liberal Media?” I don’t get it. Iraq is a mess, our country is worse off all around than it was five years ago, our economy is in the dumps, the man LIED to his own country as well as others, to go to war with Iraq. And for what? To make the world safer? Ok..so they had no WMD, but we’re still there wasting lives. Why doesn’t Bush care about places like, say…North Korea?

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - North Korea says it has turned the plutonium from 8,000 spent nuclear fuel rods into nuclear weapons to serve as a deterrent against increasing U.S. nuclear threats and to prevent a nuclear war in northeast Asia.
Source

Yikes. That sounds like a pretty big threat to me. AND they openly admit that they have WMD.. TO USE AGAINST US!
My Republican friends (both of you), help me out here…Bush is good because he only picks on countries he thinks we can take? (even though it looks like we can’t even take Iraq)

How about the environment? Is the world we live in important to the Bush supporters? I guess not. Or do they not know where Bush stands? Here’s where Bush stands:

Bush also dismissed the 1997 Kyoto treaty, a historic agreement to assign nations limits on the amounts of greenhouse gases they could release into the atmosphere. It was negotiated by more than 150 nations but never ratified by the U.S. Senate.

Bush called the treaty an unrealistic, unscientific document…

“We do not believe there is a need, at this time, for a new overarching regulatory program that would cap and control carbon dioxide,” said James Connaughton, chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, in an interview with The Seattle Times.
Source

I turn to you, my pro-Bush friends (both of you), why don’t we care about pollution of the planet?

Maybe people support Bush because they don’t like people who are different than them. Bush is certainly anti-equal rights. We all know he tried to put an ammendment into the Constitution to make sure two individuals of the same sex cannot be happy. Heaven forbid. Bush supporters don’t approve of happy people. Or maybe all those yards w/ Bush signs belong to racists. Thats entirely possible here in the South, but what about up in Montana, and what about my Republican friends (both of you). Surely YOU are not racists, or anti-happy…explain this one to me.

How about Bush’s stance against using stem cells to heal people? Are there that many people who don’t want people to be cured from previously uncureable diseases? I guess that would make sense, having your alzheimer’s cured would probably make you happy, and we already established Bush supporters don’t want people to be happy. Seriously though, my Republican friends (both of you), why is this bad again?

I’ve pointed out Bush’s relationship with Nazis before, and you called me nuts.

I’ll leave you with a few quotes from some famous Nazis that describe exactly the techniques the Bush Administration is applying today, and I’d like to hear from the Bushies out there who read this, to explain why you support all these terrible things. Thanks.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
– Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, 1933-1945

Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.”
— Leading Nazi leader, Hermann Goering, at the Nuremberg Trials before he was sentenced to death

Judge Rules Against Patriot Act Provision

Posted on 29 September 2004 by Mat

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Part of the Patriot Act, a central plank of the Bush Administration’s war on terror, was ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge on Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Victor Marreo ruled in favor of the American Civil Liberties Union, which challenged the power the FBI has to demand confidential financial records from companies as part of terrorism investigations.

The ruling was the latest blow to the Bush administration’s anti-terrorism policies.

“A Dirty Shame”

Posted on 29 September 2004 by Mat

Just saw A Dirty Shame this afternoon. This is the latest from the notorious John Waters. If you’re a John Waters fan, you know what you’re getting. If you’re not, well, this is a movie you go see with your gay, lesbian, transexual, transvestite, porno actor/actress, stripper, hooker, friends. If you don’t have any friends who meet any of the above criteria, this might not be the movie for you.

What is this movie about? Well…um…here,
I’ll let John Waters explain it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I love Waters’ off beat, campy, fun, sexually deviant style, reminiscent of 50’s “B” Movies, and his collection of totally unique characters. This film does not disappoint.

How Bush’s grandfather helped Hitler’s rise to power

Posted on 29 September 2004 by Mat

George Bush’s grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.

The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

Posted on the Leoville boards

Posted on 27 September 2004 by Mat

On behalf of Sarah and me, I’d like to thank the Leovillagers who wrote and expressed their condolences over the loss of my husband and Sarah’s dad. He was truly a wonderful man, a loving and devoted father, who fought cancer with courage and dignity, while maintaining his great sense of humor. We will miss him always.

Thanks again,
Linelle Lane

Blowin’ In the wind

Posted on 26 September 2004 by Mat

Last night the DFH Liquor Cabinet was on the air while Hurricane Jeanne made landfall. So we did what we could to give our listeners up to the minute news. We had our exclusive coverage, of CNN’s exclusive coverage, of Hurricane Jeanne.

For those of you who missed out on the highlight of the evening, here it is, as covered by CNN, covered by DFH Radio.

- UPDATE - Here is the CNN footage, sans DFH Coverage.

Jen Garner Pix

Posted on 25 September 2004 by Mat

Here’s some pix of Jen Garner leaving her place in the morning. Sources say she was on her way to work out. So this is what Jen looks like, sans makeup. Not too horrible, but something odd seems to be up w/ her nose. And she looks slightly skeletal. Still, I wouldn’t kick her out if I woke up next to her.

Ralph Nader on “Coast to Coast”

Posted on 25 September 2004 by Mat

So I’m sitting here at 1am, listening to “Coast to Coast AM”, and they have Ralph Nader on as a guest. He was taking caller questions a minute ago.

Q. “what would you do about disclosing UFO knowledge to the public if you were elected?”

A: “If they’re landing on earth, how come none of them ever stay?”

What kind of answer is that? Its a politician answer. Weak.
But to appease the conspiracy crowd, he quickly jumped into the Kerry/Bush Skull and Bones topic.

Normally I LIKE Ralph Nader, I just KNOW he can’t win, and I realize if I vote Nader, I may as well vote Bush. I support Nader…but in the same way I supported OJ Simpson. Quietly. Interestingly enough, as this interview went on, I noticed Ralph started acting the same way OJ does during an interview…oddly. Like “Hah. Hah. Hah…no really. Honest. Ho. Ho. Ho.” Uncomfortable psuedo-confidence. If you’ve seen any OJ interviews (post-murder trial), you know what I mean.

Anyhow…Its over now, and I missed the beginning of the show, but I’ll try to hunt it down and post the good bits here. Stay tuned. Ho Ho Ho…

Midtown Mascot

Posted on 24 September 2004 by Mat

So the wife and I were sitting around at the local coffee shop with all the other Coffee Shop Geniuses the other day, and the subject came up that our neighborhood needs a mascot. Why? Who the hell knows, but the wife was all excited and proclaimed “I used to be a mascot! I could do it!”

Well, we need a character first. My suggestion was “Cracky the Midtown Bum.” I figured that pretty well represented the area.

Now I’m looking at Ben C to draw the character up. I figure if anyone could draw what “Cracky” would/should look like, Ben C can. Ben, lets see what ya got.

Anyone else who wants to send their Cracky art over, go right ahead!
