The Day Before Yesterday…

Posted on 30 May 2004 by Mat

..Was when The Day After Tomorrow opened, but we saw it at a matinee yesterday. I liked this movie. I was worried at first that it might be too much like Twister, but it managed to not focus on one couple for the enitre film. It jumped around to people experiencing the Coming Global Superstorm in different areas of the world. The effects were outstanding, and the fact that this type of event could possibly happen seems to strike an interest to me. There were a few parts i thought were unnecessary, and a few loose strings left hanging, but overall, i give it a thumbs up.

Rance (get it..’Rants’)

Posted on 28 May 2004 by Mat

Who is Rance? Apprently some A-list celebrity, who has a blog of his own. Some folks think its Owen Wilson, Ben Affleck, Jim Carrey or even George Clooney. I checked out his blog, and my guess would be (if i had to choose from the above list) Ben Affleck. I know he’s a tech saavy guy. Kevin Smith told The Screensavers that when he bought Affleck’s house, it was all wired up with a network and mentioned what a techie Affleck was.

Maybe its Curtis Armstrong (Booger). I wish.

TechTV (as we know it) is Dead.

Posted on 28 May 2004 by Mat

Today is the day TechTV changes over to G4/TechTV. I have yet to see any of the new programming, but i went to the website, and it sucks. I tried to find a link to the netcams, and had no luck. I hopped on the forums, which are overrun with people telling G4 how much they suck and “thanks for ruining TechTV” and rumors of who’s staying on and who will no longer be around in a few months.

(Rumor pit says Patrick Norton will not be joining the G4 family. Still waiting to see what happens with the rest of the crew we know and love)

This is a sad sad day.

What IS the DFH?

Posted on 26 May 2004 by Mat

Tony White writes:

“I like the gradient header - I was hoping you would incorporate more of your dfh look/logo into the blog. I didn’t know if you were trying to keep “bilbo bloggins” as a separate thing or what. I like the distorted pic for “bilbo bloggins”. wouldn’t the mailto: image be your ‘bb’ pic and not the dfh-online header? i hadn’t mentioned this yet - but I love the idea of the doggy cam and matcam.”

First off, thanks for the comments, I’m thinking my entry text goes too far to the right. Tony, how did you get to stop, and not go all the way over?
Glad you like the Cams. I’ve recieved several good
remarks about them.

Second, when i started this blog, i thought “Bilbo Bloggins” was a clever name for a blog. This blog was never meant to replace what was the DFH Online, however, the more i thought about it, i had to ask myself, “What was the DFH (not the movie, but the publication) all about anyhow?” It was about publishing weird stories, weird images, and rant. - Guess what? Thats what this blog is. So it only makes sense to make this the new Official Door From Hell Online. Thing is, I still like “Bilbo Bloggins”. so here’s the story we’re going with.

ED BURTON SELLS DOOR FROM HELL TO BILBO BLOGGINS
Ed Burton, editor and publisher and writer and artist of the popular webzine “The Door From Hell” has sold the publication to millionaire playboy, Bilbo Bloggins, for an estimated seven figure deal. We’ve learned that most of the figures are fractions of cents. Stay tuned for a better, more exciting and sexy Door From Hell-Online.

HST News" href="http://doorfromhell.com/thelair/?p=131" rel="bookmark"> HST News

Posted on 25 May 2004 by Mat

This may or may not be new news to anyone..it was posted in Hunter S. Thompson’s column on ESPN.com, awhile ago, I just never reported it. Anyhow, here it is..

“…I have devoted my “spare time” to writing the screenplay for a movie based on my long-lost, super-strange novel called “The Curse of Lono,” which will start shooting in Hawaii before the end of this year.

Yes sir, I am a little too busy for my own good these days, and my boys are doing pretty well in the movie business. Johnny Depp is the Sexiest Man in the World. Benicio is a new Oscar winner. And Sean is about to nail a huge Academy Award for Best Dramatic Actor. Josh Hartnett was with me at the savage Honolulu Marathon. John Cusack made a scandalous movie about how it feels to catch syphilis in Norway, and Naomi Watts has a major roll in “The Curse of Lono.”"

I haven’t read “The Curse of Lono” (yet), mainly because the book is out of print and copies on ebay go for around $80. Howerver it looks like there’s still some time to get my hands on a copy before the release of this one.

IMDB.com is reporting “The Rum Diary” film to be out this year, but I haven’t heard much about it, other than Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro will be back, along with Nick Nolte and Josh Hartnett. If you haven’t read this book, go read it before this flick comes out. Its a good read.

Trading Faces

Posted on 23 May 2004 by Mat

I’m sure most of you have heard the stories of yore about Paul McCartney dying way back in 1966, and how everyone was relieved that he wasn’t really dead. Only, not everyone believes he survived. I suggest taking a gander at some of the Paul is Dead sites around the net. There’s some compelling (sort of ) evidence that orginal bassist of the Beatles is in fact, dead, and the Paul all us youngsters know, is a fake, named William Campbell, who won a “Paul Look-a-Like” contest. With the help of some plastic surgery, this Fake Paul (or “Faul”) filled in, to preserve the Beatles long time fame and fortune.

So i’m watching Trading Spaces last night, and its one w/ popular/sexy designer Genevieve Gorder, only…she looks different. I can’t quite put my finger on what it is, but i almost didn’t recognize her. I did a little research online, to find some photos of “Old Gen” and “New Gen”, and while I was digging around on fansites, I discovered that Gen had been mysteriously absent from the show for several months. Could the orginal Gen be dead, replaced by a new “Fen”? Or did she just get plastic surgery somewhere in South Florida…? Either way, here’s some photographic evidence that this New Gen is not the Old Gen:

Here you can see something is up w/ her jawline and eyes/cheekbones. Stetched or tucked..not sure.

another profile shot..something is up.

Here is a front on shot, not too different, but you can still clearly see something is up with her eyes and cheeks.

..and again..look at the eyes, cheeks, and jaw.

Is it just a different hairstyle and makeup, or an elaborate scam to replace Gen with Fen??

Cat Crap.

Posted on 21 May 2004 by Mat

I just watched the trailer for the new Catwoman movie, starring Halle Berry as Catwoman. It looks action packed but probalby has little plot, we’ll see about that, I couldn’t exactly tell the plot from the trailer. But here’s my complaint, I’m a stickler when it comes to comic book movies. Comic book movies need to be authentic to the original book. Now i know Halle Berry is light skinned, but she’s still not the pasty Catwoman i remember from the comics. This is the Catwoman I remember. As you can see, Halle Berry does not look like this. Don’t get me wrong, she’s plenty sexy, she’s a good comic book actress - she rocked as Storm in X-men - and i’m all for creative liscense, but c’mon folks…stick with the book. I’m sorry if most of those old books had white people as characters, its like, most (all?) Motown bands lacked white people, thats just how it is. You wouldn’t make a Barry White movie with Louie Anderson as Barry would you? Or what if they redid Shaft with Brad Pitt instead of Sam Jackson?

Its just another case of bad casting.
Like, Daredevil, for instance. Bad casting..sort of..i think Jen Garner was a pretty good Electra, (and i hear they’re making a spinoff film of Electra, w/ Garner signed on. Sweet) but Affleck..not my first choice to play Matt Murdock. And how about Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze, in that bad Batman movie…bad casting. On the flip side, the entire X-men cast - perfect. Jack Nicholson as the Joker, c’mon, he was BORN for that role. Danny Devito as the Penguin..good casting, not sure about the costume on that one. Even Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman wasn’t bad. I think maybe there’s a better actress out there, and i’m not sure who..maybe Jennifer Connelly. (dunno how much of an action star she’d be, though.) I guess i just don’t think of Halle Berry when i think of Catwoman.

I’ll still go see it..who knows maybe it’ll work. I mean, i’m sure not complaining about seeing Halle’s boobs in a tight outfit.

At least we still have Spiderman 2 this summer.

Serious Question..

Posted on 20 May 2004 by Mat

Is there anyone more annoying than Al Roker?

I defy anyone to come up with someone more obnoxious, more unfunny, more irritating and more awful. Tony has Edna Garrett, i have Al Roker. He is my arch nemesis. He’s worse than that drunk guy who says all the wrong things, ’cause Al’s not drunk. He just says ‘em. He tries so hard to be funny, it just comes out as a bad joke he’s rehearsed all week and can’t wait to tell, only when he tells it, its pure irritation, because Al has no timing or delivery or humor. He’s a shriveled, washed up waste of human flesh. All i want to do is kick the guy.
God damn…Al Roker pisses me off.

TechTV Update" href="http://doorfromhell.com/thelair/?p=127" rel="bookmark"> TechTV Update

Posted on 20 May 2004 by Mat

Leo reports:

“Yesterday was one of the saddest days of my life. We put Call for Help to bed Wednesday. You’ll see the last episode on Friday, but for those of us who have been making the show for six years a huge and important chunk of our lives is over.”

“Some will continue on with G4. I think Roger, Cat, and Ian will move to LA. George is getting his real estate license. Dan will be bagging groceries at the local Stop ‘n’ Shop. I’m not sure what Fawn’s plans are. The studio crew will continue working until July 2 when 535 York gets shut down for good. Then they’ll all go on to other jobs. They’re the best in the business and won’t have any trouble finding work.”

Read his whole statement here.

Here’s what i don’t get..why the hell did they hire him back a few months ago, just to shit can they whole show? They HAD to know they weren’t keeping Call For Help at that time. I dont’ get these new owners at all.

*sigh* If only more religious extremists didn’t know how reproduce.

Story at ANANOVA.com

“We are not talking retarded people here,
but a couple who were brought up in a religious environment
who were simply unaware, after eight years of marriage,
of the physical requirements necessary to procreate.”

Youth of America

Posted on 15 May 2004 by Mat

I just read this story about cicadas (locust like bugs that come out of the ground to mate ever seven years) and how they’re dangerous to children. When i first read the headline: Pediatrician Warns Parents About Cicada i thought, “hmm…i thought they were fairly harmless.” Fairly harmless - if you’re not an idiot child.

look here:

Several children fell off bikes, Baker said.
“We had a concussion, a 9-year-old who was fleeing a cicada
on her bicycle and fell off,” he said.

and here:

“We had a stab wound to the arm from a kid
who was trying to kill a cicada on the arm of another child but
unfortunately he was using a knife,” Baker added.

and….

“Another kid tried to kick one under a lawn mower
and cut his foot, and we saw a crush injury to the hand when a
kid tried to put a cicada under the wheels of a moving car.”

This the future of America, my friends. God help us.

Artie Lange Found Dead in LV Hotel
KLAS, NV - May 11, 2004
(May 11) — Eyewitness News has learned that comedian Artie Lange was found dead in his hotel room at the Hard Rock Hotel.

The Vegas CBS affiliate reported this.

And here’s Artie’s response

Artie’s obviously not dead. Turns out it was just another (brilliant) prank from the infamous Cap’n Janks.
